Article: The Potential Impact of Oral Nicotine Pouches on Public Health: A Scoping Review

This review looks at the characteristics, use patterns, beliefs and perceptions, toxicity, and marketing of oral nicotine pouches like Zyn! and On. Between 35-42% of adolescents have heard of these products, and an estimated 9-21% are susceptible to trying them. Researchers found far fewer toxic compounds of note in Oral Nicotine Pouches compared to conventional tobacco products and even fewer in the non-plant-based versions, with one notable exception. Formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, was found in quantities similar to or higher than snus. Other chemicals found in Oral Nicotine Pouches were nickel, chromium, and ammonia, which indicates that although a potential for harm reduction exists, β€œsafer” products are not necessarily β€œsafe.” View the article The Potential Impact of Oral Nicotine Pouches on Public Health: A Scoping Review via the Oxford Academic website.
