Article: Trends in E-cigarette Use in Callers to the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line

There has been a rise in the use of e-cigarettes among individuals contacting the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line, mainly among young adults. The majority of e-cigarette users who contact the quit line express a desire to quit. Therefore, quit lines can play a crucial role in helping individuals quit e-cigarettes. It’s impossible to apply these data directly to Colorado. However, just a few years ago only about 8% of callers to the Colorado QuitLine were e-cigarette users, nearly all of whom hoped that e-cigarettes were a mere stopgap on the way to abstinence. This rise in e-cig use is due to the overwhelming use of e-cigs in high schools beginning about 4-5 years ago as well as persistent dual use among individuals over 25 who started using e-cigs as adults.
