Colorado General Assembly Resumes

The Colorado General Assembly resumed the 2020 legislative session on May 26th.

Legislators are allowed to meet for another 6 weeks, but legislative leadership states they are committed to wrapping up their work within three weeks. The General Assembly must pass the Long Bill and the bills that make up the budget-balancing package, the School Finance Act, the legislative appropriations act, and bills that are "mission-critical" to state operations. Because public access to the Capitol is limited, legislators are committed to only pass bills that are "fast, friendly, and free."

House Bill 2020 -1001

Nicotine Product Regulation, passed out of the Senate Finance Committee unamended with a vote of 5 - 2. It was referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee where it is scheduled to be heard.

House Bill 2020 -1319

Prohibition on the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products is scheduled to be heard on the House Floor on May 28th. In a national publication, the American Heart Association shared a success story that

how Colorado repealed its tobacco preemption policy in March 2019, allowing for dozens of local tobacco regulation campaigns and tax increase proposals.
