Disposable E-Cigarette Use among U.S. Youth—An Emerging Public Health Challenge
Using National Youth Tobacco Survey data, the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health and the FDA assessed the changes in device type-specific e-cigarette use during 2019 and 2020. The assessment found the use of disposable e-cigarette devices increased among middle school students and high school students who reported currently using any type of e-cigarette. Prefilled pods or cartridges remained the most commonly used device type in 2020 among middle school students and high school students who reported current e-cigarette use. Colorado-specific data for the National Youth Tobacco Survey are not available, however, these findings reinforce the rapidly dynamic nature of the e-cigarette landscape and the need for clinicians, public health practitioners, and the general public to keep pace with these changes.
