Economic Loss Attributable to Cigarette Smoking in the USA: An Economic Modelling Study (2022)

A research study funded by the American Cancer Society attempted a full accounting of the economic cost of cigarette use in the United States. They found that in the year 2020, due to lost productivity and premature morbidity and mortality, the US lost $436.7 billion dollars. And, accounting for the dollars lost in previous years, the entirety lost that year was $846.5 billion.
