Edgewater City Council Unanimously Moves to End Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products

Last week, the Edgewater City Council voted unanimously (6-0) to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, and flavored cigars. Prohibiting the sale of flavored tobacco products is a critical step forward to protect kids from tobacco addiction, advance health equity, and save lives, especially among Black and Hispanic residents. In addition, the policy repealed the city’s existing youth tobacco purchase penalties which can disproportionately impact youth of color, and the policy also codified at least two annual retailer compliance checks for stronger retailer accountability. Edgewater becomes the sixth community in Colorado to adopt a flavored tobacco policy. A big congratulations to Edgewater on this incredible accomplishment! Read more here.
