Great American Smoke Out November 19

Today, thousands of Americans across the country will participate in the Great American Smokeout, an annual event held by the American Cancer Society.

On this day, Americans are challenged to stop smoking for at least 24 hours. A new CDC feature article for the Great American Smokeout® discusses how quitting smoking can improve lung health and eventually lower the risk for severe illness from lung infections. If you smoke, the best choice for your lung health is to quit. The feature article includes a highlight from Geri, a former smoker with COPD who says “I didn’t really take it seriously,” she says of her illness, “and I should have.” While the Great American Smoke Out is this week, the message and community promotion is a timeless message. Work to cross-promote the event and access to free, nonjudgmental resources like the Colorado QuitLine through your social and earned media channels.
