Help Amplify the Youth Vaping Message

While much of our attention is focused elsewhere right now, youth and families continue to deal with nicotine addiction. We have an opportunity to build on the youth vape education campaign that is currently reaching young people across Colorado. Many of you are familiar with the “Know the Facts” campaign which originally launched in 2017, intended to educate youth on the facts about vaping and prevent use. Throughout FY 20 STEPP has been running the campaign statewide through paid media on social and digital channels and promoting more timely, related content through the Tobacco is Nasty social channels. It is well established that an educated and empathetic support system is vital for anyone trying to quit nicotine. Parents, healthcare systems, and the social norms of a community can positively influence and support a young person attempting to quit and to stay quit. STEPP invites the grantees that are able to join in connecting the pieces over the next few weeks by amplifying the youth “Know the Facts” campaign by reaching Parents through social media with messages from the parent iteration of the campaign. This complimentary campaign provides parents with important facts about youth vaping, how to talk with their children about it and how to provide support. Social media is relatively inexpensive and has the benefit of a more targeted approach. If you have the capacity (time & resources) as a program to help, we propose you join the effort to create a coordinated approach and “amplify” the message through the end of June. Specifically, you can post ”Know the Facts” parents campaign spots on Facebook, by May 15, 2020. At this time, no budget revision will be allowed; however, if you’re able to boost the content on Facebook, grantees in most communities can do a lot with as much as $100. We do not want the expenditure to exceed $500. To make this easy for you, we’ve developed a social media content calendar for you to use!

This content calendar

includes a list of approved social media posts in English and Spanish, and a link to creative assets held in a Google Folder. The majority of these posts link to resources on Tobacco Free CO or videos on the TFC YouTube channel. You do not need to use all of these posts and you do not need to post them in this specific order, however, we wanted to provide a variety for you to choose from. There are enough to choose from so that you can post at least once a week between May 15 and June 30. If you’re unsure of how to boost posts on Facebook, a webinar tutorial is available below on the Grantee Website. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to SE2 at TA@se2communications.com.

Next Steps:

  1. Take a look at the content calendar and make a plan for posting.
  2. Identify how much budget you’d like to put behind each post (if you’re able).
  3. Email your Point of Contact and SE2 (TA@se2communications.com) if you plan to participate, to share your plan. If you have any questions, let us know!
  4. Amplify the message by posting on Facebook!
