MCH Framework integrates tobacco prevention and cessation strategies
Tobacco prevention and cessation strategies are an important part of The 2021-2025 Maternal Child Health (MCH) Block Grant plan, which aims to increase community and family resilience. The Framework features cross-cutting strategies that address seven comprehensive measures that positively impact social determinants of health (SDOH) outcomes across Colorado. STEPP is collaborating with MCH in the “Increase Social Emotional Well-being” priority. We encourage all LHAs to integrate tobacco control strategies in their local MCH work and in their upstream approaches to community and family health. Seek out and connect with colleagues in your MCH program to explore collaborative opportunities for promoting tobacco treatment and cessation among pregnant people, particularly those covered by Medicaid, and ensuring that all local tobacco-free schools’ policies include promoting cessation of all tobacco products and pro-social and progressive discipline policies if violations occur.
