Navajo Nation Council Passes Smoke-Free Act
On October 19, members of the Navajo Nation Council passed the Air is Life Act of 2021. This historic bill prohibits the use of commercial tobacco products in enclosed, indoor workplaces or public places, including casinos, and within 25 feet of any indoor area across the Navajo Nation. For 13 years, the Air is Life Coalition has been educating and organizing communities to pass a comprehensive smoke-free law. Upon certification by Speaker Seth Damon, President Jonathan Nez has 10 days to either veto or approve the resolution.
