Public Health Law Center: Tobacco and the Environment
The Public Health Law Center published Commercial Tobacco, Health, & The Environment: The Problems this month. This policy brief describes how each stage in the commercial tobacco life cycle affects the environment and ultimately, human health. These effects include deforestation, harmful pesticide usage, unsafe farmworker conditions, dangerous industrial waste and emissions, as well as toxic tobacco product waste. A future publication will identify policy solutions to these problems for governments at all levels.
