Reminder: Suggested Resources Available to Support Required Health and Racial Equity Capacity-Building Activities

STEPP’s 7 foundational activities (now referred to as capacity-building activities), include an inside/outside approach to addressing health and racial equity:

  • Inside: Agency staff build and maintain tobacco expertise, and deepen understanding of the historical, ongoing impact of and need for dismantling structural racism, systemic oppression, and addressing the root causes of health inequities.

STEPP’s Suggested Resources for LPHAs

is a good starting point to build the above expertise.

  • Outside: Grantees will incorporate talking points into their existing and ongoing community education efforts to build understanding of the impacts of root causes, including structural and systemic racism, oppression, and the social determinants of health, on health outcomes.

STEPP's Health and Racial Equity Talking Points use clear, explicit language to adopt a shared narrative and frames about the impacts on health outcomes. Grantees may also draft their own talking points.
