Report & Toolkit: Strategies for Strengthening Community Engagement

The Public Health Institute facilitated a comprehensive community engagement evaluation that consequently led to the development of a report and toolkit based on the evaluation findings. The evaluation itself is a valuable resource that reveals successful community engagement strategies as well as facilitators and barriers that health promotion professionals experience when engaging community. The toolkit authors grounded their perspectives and results in equity-based approaches and concepts that align well with the STEPP north star of advancing health and racial equity through programmatic and policy efforts. We recommend reviewing the toolkit developed from this project as it provides many tangible and easy-to-implement strategies to engage community members and enhance their understanding of issues like tobacco use. The toolkit appendices include tips for meeting facilitation, messaging development forms, action planning templates, meeting activity instructions, and process worksheets – we hope you take the time to explore!
