Segregated by Design: A Film

‘Segregated By Design’ examines the forgotten history of how our federal, state and local governments unconstitutionally segregated every major metropolitan area in America through law and policy. You can watch the 18-minute film here. Here are the links to the film’s twitter, facebook and Instagram. You can also check out the book that the film is based on, The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein. To watch the April 29th webinar, The Color of Law: A Conversation with Richard Rothstein sponsored by NACDD’s Racial Equity and Diversity Inclusion (REDI) Alliance, use the link below. As reminded by Paul K. Halverson, Dean, Fairbanks School of Public Health, IUPUI, “The reality is that health is a result of many factors. The most striking one has nothing to do with intelligence, diet or job status. Instead, it’s a person’s ZIP code. Where someone lives is the greatest predictor of health and life expectancy. A person’s ZIP code is also a good predictor of their race and ethnicity. Those things too have a major impact on how long someone lives and, maybe even more importantly, how well.” Read the full article here.
