Solving the e-cigarette/vape waste problem in Boulder County
Colorado is facing a serious issue with what to do with e-cigarette/vape waste that is collected, confiscated, or littered in schools and communities across the state. This waste not only comes at a cost to youth and adult health, but also to the environment. Tobacco product waste requires both a school and community response to mitigate, and the Boulder County Tobacco program stands out as a national, state, and local leader in addressing this problem. As a result of widespread e-cigarette use, Boulder County representatives from the county’s Resource Conservation Division Hazardous Materials Program and Health Department’s Tobacco program staff developed an e-cigarette/vape disposal project at Boulder Valley School District.
