Tobacco-Related Bills in the 2024 Colorado General Assembly’s Legislative Session
The Colorado General Assembly is considering several tobacco-related bills this session, including:
- House Bill 24-1356 Sale of Unauthorized Electronic Smoking Devices: The purpose of the bill is to create a directory of electronic smoking devices that have received premarket authorization from the FDA to be legally sold in Colorado or an application has been submitted but FDA has not been decided. The House Business Affairs & Labor Committee will hear the bill on 3/21.
- House Bill 24-1156 Authorization To Hold Special Events Where Substances That Minors Are Prohibited From Purchasing Are Served:The purpose of the bill is to expand the privilege of obtaining a Special Event Permit to serve alcohol. The House Business Affairs & Labor Committee amended the bill to allow tobacco retailers to obtain a permit to hold tobacco festivals. The bill was assigned to the Senate Business, Labor, & Technology Committee on March 18th.
- Senate Bill 24-022 County Authority to Regulate Flavored Tobacco Products: The purpose of the bill is to clarify county authority to regulate tobacco products including banning the sale of flavored tobacco products. The bill failed to pass out of the House Committee on Business Affairs & Labor on March 7th.
- House Bill 24-1069 Recycling of Single-Use Electronic Smoking Devices: The purpose of the bill is to establish an advisory group to make strategy recommendations for the recycling of single-use electronic smoking devices. The Bill was amended by the House Committee on Energy & Environment and referred to the House Appropriations Committee on February 8th.
