Updated Link: Ventilation Talking Points

Long before smoke-free indoor air laws were commonplace, the tobacco industry sought to undermine efforts to implement them by promoting ventilation systems as an adequately safe alternative.

We have heard from grantees that this approach is being revived by the marijuana industry as it pushes for more Colorado communities to opt in to House Bill 1230 and allow for indoor marijuana smoking. The fact is that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. STEPP reviewed research and statements from public health and ventilation science leaders and compiled them in this document to assist grantees as they educate decision makers on the issue. Keep in mind that this document is intended to inform grantee messaging and is not meant to be a public-facing document. Please reach out to Smoke-free Policy Specialist, Keith Cooper if you have any questions.
